Black Statement on August Jobs Report
Gallatin, TN—Today, U.S. Representative Diane Black (R-TN), released the following statement on the news that the economy added zero net jobs in August and national unemployment remained at 9.1%:
“The flat lining of job growth in this country is another stark reminder that the policies of the last three years have not worked,” said Black. “We must put an end to the uncertainty that is plaguing our businesses and preventing them from growing and hiring. When I talk to small business owners in the 6th District, I consistently hear how they are worried that one more mandate, regulation or tax increase will sink them.”
“Since being sworn in to Congress in January, my colleagues and I have been focused on policies that will grow jobs and the economy. We have passed legislation to increase access to American energy, repeal the president’s costly health care law, eliminate job-killing regulations and stop spending money we don’t have. It is clear that billions in Washington spending has not created jobs and the president’s stimulus did not keep unemployment below 8 percent as he promised.”
“Next week when the President gives his jobs speech before Congress, I hope he will offer something other than the same failed policies of the past three years. America is truly facing a jobs crisis and it is time that Washington work toward real solutions.”
