Black Statement on Passage of Republican “Path to Prosperity” Budget

April 15, 2011
Press Release

Washington, D.C. —Today, U.S. Representative Diane Black (R-TN), released the following statement after voting for the FY2012 Budget Resolution, called “The Path to Prosperity.”

“Today is a historic day.  Republicans in the House came together to pass on time, a visionary budget proposal that gets America back on the path to economic security.  As a member of the Budget Committee, I believe this Congress has done what was right instead of what was politically easy.  We took bold steps to ensure that the next generation can grow up knowing the greatness of this country, instead of being forced to live with the crushing burden of debt.

“Our ‘Path to Prosperity’ cuts $6.2 trillion in government spending, locks in savings with enforceable spending caps for 2012 and into the next decade.  Our plan reduces deficits, pays off our debt and puts the budget on a path to balance while keeping taxes low and creating jobs.  These are real steps to getting our country back on track, and that is why my constituents sent me to Washington.  This budget proposal shows my commitment to ending the borrow-and-spend cycle and changing the way Washington does business.”
