Washington, D.C. – Today Congressman Diane Black (R-TN-06), a member of the House Budget Committee, released the below statement on the unveiling of the House Republican Fiscal Year 2016 budget: A Balanced Budget for a Stronger America.

“Today House Republicans offered a timely budget that brings our books to balance and leads where President Obama has failed. Whereas the President’s laughable budget proposals offer higher taxes, more debt, and never achieve balance – our budget balances in less than ten years, all without raising taxes,” said Congressman Diane Black. “Families and businesses have to live within a budget and it’s past time Washington learned to do the same. Our $18 trillion debt is unsustainable and the proposals offered by President Obama and Congressional Democrats would only exacerbate this crisis. We need a plan to grow our economy, restore fiscal sanity to Washington, and give American families certainty of what is to come. Our budget will do just that by cutting $5.5 trillion in runaway spending, saving Medicare from bankruptcy, repealing the President’s disastrous healthcare law, and by laying a foundation for pro-growth tax reform. I am proud to serve as a co-author of this conservative, responsible budget proposal and I commend Chairman Price and my colleagues for their leadership throughout this process.”
