Rep. Black Rips Obama’s Executive Action on Guns: A “Childish Temper Tantrum”

January 5, 2016
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Diane Black (R-TN-06), a handgun carry permit holder and member of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus, released the following statement in response to President Obama’s executive action on gun control:

“President Obama’s contempt for the 2nd Amendment – and the Constitutional separation of powers – is well documented but that does not entitle him to this childish temper tantrum. This is nothing more than a cheap stunt by a lawless President looking to seal a political legacy in the last months of his failing Administration. What’s more, the President’s actions lack any basis in fact, as even the Washington Post was forced to admit that not a single recent act of mass violence could be prevented by new gun laws. Congress cannot let this backdoor power grab go unchallenged. We must use every tool at our disposal, including the power of the purse and, if necessary, the pursuit of legal action, to put a check on this unconstitutional overreach,” said Congressman Diane Black.

A firearm owner herself, Congressman Black is the author of multiple pro-2nd Amendment bills introduced during the 114th Congress. This includes the FIREARM Act, which prohibits the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) from forcing gun buyers to answer questions pertaining to race and ethnicity on the Form 4473, and the TSA Act, which designate handgun carry permits bearing a photo as a form of acceptable identification at Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screenings.

Congressman Diane Black represents Tennessee’s 6th Congressional District. She has been a nurse for more than 40 years and serves on the House Ways and Means Committee and Budget Committee.
