Supreme Court Protects First Amendment
Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Congressman Diane Black (R-TN-06) released the following statement after the Supreme Court ruled that pregnancy centers in California are no longer required to advertise abortion services:
“Forcing pro-life pregnancy centers to advertise for the abortion industry is sickening. The men and women working at these facilities are dedicated to protecting the sanctity of life, and providing mothers – and their unborn children – with compassionate resources and care. The government has no business forcing them to violate their religious beliefs and promote something they fundamentally disagree with. This is the right decision by the Supreme Court, and a tremendous victory for our First Amendment.”
Under the 2015 California law, pregnancy centers were required to provide information to clients about public programs available for free or low-cost access to abortion and contraceptive services.
Congressman Diane Black represents Tennessee’s 6th Congressional District. A nurse for more than 40 years, she serves as a member of the House Budget Committee and the Ways and Means Committee.
